What is a cookie?
Cookies are small data files written to your hard drive by some Web sites when you view them in your browser. These data files contain information the site can use to track such things as passwords, lists of pages you've visited, and the date when you last looked at a certain page. Cookies can be beneficial, such as when they store personalized information that helps you navigate a site. However, they can also be considered an invasion of privacy if the site that placed them on your computer gathers data on your browsing habits. Cookies can be deleted without causing harm to your computer. Check the Security Settings and Help information in your browser to determine what cookies to allow or block.

Information on handling SPAM?
SPAM is any Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE).

A few tips you can try to help control the amount of SPAM you receive.

  1. Only give your email address to close friends and family members. If you feel someone might add your email address to a group list to send out one email or forward your email on to others, ask them to remove your email address from that list.

  2. Get a free email address from services such as Hotmail or Yahoo. Use this account when posting to chat groups, mailing lists, etc. If you are registering at websites for products, read their Acceptable Use Policy and/or Privacy Policy to find out what they do with your personal information and check to see if website provides the option to not include email address in advertisement list, so you may take advantage of that option.

  3. Do not reply to any SPAM messages or click on unsubscribe links. While legitimate companies will remove your email address from their list, unscrupulous companies and/or SPAMMERS will use this to validate your email address. They may then sell your email address to other SPAMMERS and/or will send you more SPAM themselves.

  4. Check your email program to see if it provides a filtering option. If it does, read your documentation or any help files provided with your program to find out how to enable it and send your email to a SPAM folder or directly to the trash.

  5. Do not have your email address listed on any web sites. SPAMMERS use programs called "robots" to get email addresses off of websites.

  1. Using an FTP program, connect to ftp.ywave.com.
  2. Enter the username and password assigned to you.
  3. Change directories to public_html. Any files you upload will need to be placed here or in a subdirectory of public_html.

How do I put a counter on my web page?
A counter is a data file that records the number of hits on a specific web page. Please be aware that the hit count may not be accurate, since the counter will be incremented each time this page is reloaded.

Each user has their own unique data file that begins with the count of 1. To get the name of your data file, please email support@fairpoint.net./p>

There are also a variety of styles that the counter may be displayed in.

To call the counter in your html file, add the following instructions:
<img src="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?............">

The blank area between the ? and " represent a QUERY_STRING. A QUERY_STRING allows additional options to the counter. More than one option may be included, but they must be separated by a | or a &. No spaces or new lines can be added within the QUERY_STRING.

Available Options
df=DATE_FILE Data file to store count
dd=DIGIT_STYLE Digit style to use for counter
ft=X The counter's frame that is X pixels thick, otherwise it defaults to 5.
frgb=R;G;B Specifies the color of the frame in a (Red/Green/Blue) format or the color name, otherwise the frame will be in its defaulting color.
tr=B Any one color of the counter can be transparent with tr=Y.
trgb=R;G;B Specifies the color to make transparent, otherwise the defaulting color, black will become transparent.
md=X The maximum number of digits to display within the range of 5 to 10 digits. If the count is less than the md parater, it will be padded with zeros.
pad=B The padded zeros can be turned off with pad=N with the md parameter.
comma=B If your counter style has a comma as one of its characters, you can have the comma displayed with comma=T.
srgb=R;G;B To change any one color of the image, specify srgb for the source color.
prgb=R;G;B The prgb is the pen color to change srgb to. The color can be noted as a (Red/Green/Blue) format or the actual color name.
chcolor=B Changes the default green color to cyan. Therefore the srgb and prgb parameters don't need to be specified.
sh=B Prevents the counter from being displayed with the parameter sh=N, but stills allows the counter to be incremented.
incr=B Makes it possible to display the counter without having it incremented.
negate=B Negates the color of the counter digits only with the parameter negate=Y. The frame can't be negated.
degrees=X Rotates the counter image in X degrees. Only in 90 degree intervals.

Example: If your user id is "test" and you want a counter with the comma capability and no frame wrapped around, you would enter:

<img src="/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=test.dat|dd=DIGIGRN1|comma=T|ft=0">

General Billing Information
How does my billing flow?
We pull the billing on the 21st of each month. This is for usage from the 21st of the prior month to the 20th of the current month. You should always have a full cycle in the billing. Should it ever be necessary to pull on any other days, we will automatically take that into account and not bill you for any additional days.

How do I check my current usage for the month?
To check your current usage send an email message to time@ywave.com from your FairPoint account. No subject or message text is required. The customer will receive a report of time on the Internet for the current billing period which runs from the 21st of the month through the 20th of the next month. The report is by day and current total time. The report is sent by email to the customer.

When Does My Account start or stop?
The start date of your account cannot be adjusted, and initial charges will be based on when you requested service. Normal billing cycle is from the 21st to the 20th each month.

Within the first thirty days, if you do not wish to continue using service, you can simply call Customer Service and we can close the account. We will credit back the first month's fees.

Since FairPoint does not determine account activity by your usage, you must call in to cancel your account or you will continue to be billed. If you have one of our metered plans and do not know the hours you have used for that month, just send us a blank email message to time@ywave.com from your FairPoint account.
