call trace

Call Trace is available with calls made from our local calling area of 400, 458, 446, 894. There is a service charge for each successful trace. Once a trace has been successfully completed, the information is considered proprietary and can only be released by the telephone company to law enforcement officials.

How To Activate Call Trace:

  1. If you receive a harassment call and you want to activate call trace, hang up.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds, then pick-up your handset, listen for dial tone. Then dial, *57 or, for rotary phones, 1157.
  3. If you want to continue the trace process, press 1. Otherwise, hang up.
  4. You will receive an announcement if the trace was successful.
  5. Contact your local law enforcement office to file a case. Law enforcement will contact FairPoint Communications.
